Who makes it
The app is designed, built and maintained by Zygimantas Sniurevicius, an independent developer. It has no partnership or affiliation with the museums whose collections it features.
What the app does
Each day, one painting waits behind a mist until you press and hold to reveal it. A guided Story then walks you through the work while the camera moves to each detail being described. Completing the Story adds the painting to your personal museum, alongside Expositions, streaks and a monthly view. The app is free to download; the guided daily experience requires an active subscription.
How the Stories are sourced
Each Story is written from the painting itself and its source record, usually the holding museum's collection page. The catalog uses public-domain and open-access works, and every painting credits its source and shows its rights information. It includes more than 380 paintings by more than 250 artists from over 60 museum collections.
Where the evidence is unclear, a Story says so rather than inventing an answer. On the Stańczyk page, for example, the letter in the painting is dated 1533 although Smolensk was lost in 1514; the page cites the National Museum in Warsaw on this mismatch and leaves Matejko's intention open.
Languages
The app interface is available in 43 languages, and this website is published in the same 43 languages.
Privacy
The app shows no ads. It has diagnostics and optional usage analytics that you control in its settings, and this website uses cookieless Cloudflare Web Analytics for aggregate visits. The privacy policy explains the details.
